Surgery numbers at SSMH up 21 percent
The surgical unit of Siloam Springs Memorial Hospital has exceeded all previous records for number of surgeries in a six month period. The total number of surgical cases performed from Jan. 1 to June 30 this year was 21 percent more than the same period in 2008, said Danette Cripps, R.N., director of surgical services.
“We’re extremely happy with this report,” Cripps said. “It’s a pleasant surprise, considering the current economy and national reports that consumers are postponing surgeries until the financial climate improves and national health insurance issues are worked out.”
SSMH Chief Executive Officer Kevin Clement praised SSMH’s medical and surgical staff members for their excellence and dedication to caring for patients.
“The record-breaking numbers in surgery are a testimony to the confidence placed in our staff and our local hospital,” Clement said. “Community support such as this further emphasizes the need to expand our services by adding physicians, services and equipment … and eventually building a new replacement hospital.”
