Dear Loyal Readers,
It has been such a great pleasure these past six years to write the column “Food Talk.” It has offered a wonderful opportunity to share nutrition information that perhaps helped you live a healthier lifestyle and enjoy a better quality of life.
I wish to thank the Herald-Leader for the generosity and willingness to provide space for such a column. To the readers, please know how much I have appreciated your interest and the many favorable comments and suggestions received along this journey. You have no idea how much satisfaction one feels when someone says, “I read your column.”
Another wonderful experience with the community of Siloam Springs has been the weight management class held in conjunction with John Brown University at the Walton Lifetime Complex. Working with Dr. Robert Walker to offer nutrition and exercise expertise has provided the citizens of this community unbelievable opportunities and education. The last time we attempted a count we had worked with approximately 2,000 people. Pardon the slang, but, “How cool is that!”
I have decided to retire July 31. It is time to enter another phase of life. It has been such a pleasure to be a part of the Siloam Springs community. I will long cherish the friendships I have made here among hospital staff, patients, families and the community. Thank you.
Please welcome a new dietitian to the area. Her name is Catherine Baker. She comes with great qualifications and experience. She will continue to write a nutrition column and do community programs. I know you will enjoy her. It is such a wonderful thing to know someone like Catherine will be available to offer nutrition education and guidance to patients in the hospital and the community.
Lastly, I wish great success for SSMH as it embraces a future with a new hospital and the opportunity to continue good health care for a great community.
Thanks to all for all,
Ellen Jones-Loftis
